Tees Maar Khan had got the third best opening after Dabaang and The Three Idiots.

Tees Maar Khan had got the third best opening after Dabaang and The Three Idiots.

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s new film Tees Maar Khan had got the third best opening of the year after Dabaang and The Three Idiots. It was a great news for the producers and distributors because the two other films that had been released few weeks back namely Band Baaja Baarat and No Problem had done average business. Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om had done super business few years back. It appears like Tees Maar Khan will equal or beat that record. The film had been released on 24th December, 2010, before Christmas. Farah Khan had directed the film. The film had been produced by Shirish Kunder, Twinkle Khanna and Ronnie Screwwala. Vishal Shekhar and Shrish Kunder had composed music for the film.

The film is related to the story of a great thief played by Akshay Kumar. He had played the lead role in the film. Katrina Kaif had been an actress in the film. She had got a lot of help from Akshay Kumar and in term had helped him. Akshay Khanna is the other major character in the film who knew about Akshay Kumar’s activities.

In the film guest performances were given by Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan. Salman Khan had danced in the song “wallah re wallah” along with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Sanjay Dutt had been the narrator in the film.

The story of the film had not been unique. But the good part of the film had been its music and the dance performances. Sonu Nigam had experimented with the style of singing in the song “tees maar khan” where he had shown his versatility. Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal Dadhlani had done a brilliant job in the song “Sheila ki jawani”, which had been the most popular song in the film. Katrina Kaif had danced well in the song sequence. May be the sizzling screen presence of Katrina Kaif in the dance sequences had created magic and the crowd had been entertained.

The other song “wallah re wallah” had also been very catchy. Kamal Khan, Raja Hassan, Shreya Ghoshal and others had sung the song very well. Star performances of Salman Khan, and performances of Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar had been very grand. Acting of Akshay Khanna had been brilliant in the film as ever.

The pair of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif had been accepted by the viewers. But the film does not have the same magic as that of Singh is Kinng or Namaste London. If the film does business of more than 100 crores, it will be blessing for bollywood because The Three Idiots did business worth 200 crores and Dabaang did business worth 150 crores.

Sonu Nigam and Shantanu Moitra.

Sonu Nigam and Shantanu Moitra.

Sonu Nigam had brilliant combination a number of leading composers of bollywood over the last 10 years. Sonu Nigam was associated with Anu Malik as some of his best romantic numbers were composed by him including “hume jab se mohabbat ho gayi hai”, in the film Border, or “sau dard hai” in the film Jaaneman. He was also associated with Sajid Wajid, as most of his romantic numbers like “tumko bhula na payega” from the film Tumko Bhula Na Payenge, or “mujhse shaadi karogi” in the film Mujshe Shaadi Karoge was composed by him.

But Sonu Nigam sang very landmark songs under the composition of Shantanu Moitra in critically acclaimed films. The films included Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai, The Three Idiots, etc. Parineeta was directed by Pradeep Sarkar and was probably the first launching pad of actress Vidya Balan. Sonu Nigam’s duet song with Shreya Ghoshal namely “piyu bole piya bole” composed by Shantanu Moitra maintained the flavor of Rabindrasangeet with a background of Kolkata during the time of writer Sarat Chandra Chatterji. Also the song “yeh hawaye gungunaye” was equally impressive.

In the film Lage Raho Munnabhai, Shantanu Moitra, maintained both the bhai-like mastani flavor as well as the soft romantic mood. Sonu Nigam’s song “pal pal pal pal pal pal har pal” was probably the most romantic song of the film. The other songs like “lage raho munnabhai” did bear a different andaz. If the acting of Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Vidya Balan was impressive, the music was equally instrumental in the success of the film.

The Three Idiots had shown the loopholes of India’s higher education system. The songs composed by Shantanu Moitra had the message of the director Raj Kumar Hirani. Sonu Nigam and others in the film sung the theme song “all is well” a number of times in the film. The other song “zubi zubi” sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal was also very fast and melodious. Shantanu Moitra had used other upcoming singers like Suraj in the film who had also done a great job in the film. If the acting of Amir Khan, R. Mahadevan and Sharman Joshi had impressed the viewers, the music had made them spellbound.

The audience expect the combination of Sonu Nigam and Shantanu Moitra to provide more number of romantic numbers in future, even in films made under any other banner in addition to the banner of Vidhu Vinod Chopra or direction of Raj Kumar Hirani.

Sonu Nigam require more romantic numbers in 2010.

Sonu Nigam require more romantic numbers in 2010.

There was a time whenever discussion hovered around recent romantic numbers in bollywood films, Sonu Nigam’s name emerged automatically.

It started with “hume jab se muhobbat ho gayi hai” in Border for Akshay Khanna. It continued in Refugee. The songs “panchi nadiya”, “aisa lagta hai”, “mere humsafar” composed by Anu Malik and picturized on Abhishek Bacchan.

After 2000, Sonu Nigam still gave romantic numbers like “piya bole piya bole” in Parineeta, composed by Shantanu Moitra for Saif Ali Khan, “pal pal pal pal pal pal, kaise katega pal” composed by Shantanu Moitra for Sanjay Dutt in Lage Raho Munnabhai.

Even the song “chup chup ke chup chup ke” from Bunty Aur Babli had romantic appeal. It was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Anu Malik’s composition for Sonu Nigam in Salman Khan’s Janeman titled “sau dard hai” had both pathos and romantic appeal embedded in them.

But in the last year excepting “kal nau baje” from the film Short Cut, he did not have striking number of romantic songs. In 2010, he should get back to romantic numbers which are most soothing in the years of listeners. These days very rarely romantic songs were composed.

Sonu Nigam’s song “phir se” in the film Toh Baat Pakki in 2010, or his song in Salman Khan’s film Veer, composed by Sajid Wajid is not as romantic as the songs of the previous films like Tumko Bhula Na Payenge, where the title song had a haunting effect.

Experimental songs do well and show the range of playback singers. But they don’t create a lasting impact. For example, Sonu Nigam’s song “all is well” in The Three Idiots became hit, but his followers want Sonu Nigam to get back to romantic songs where he had been elegant in the 90s. Let us hope for the best.

The Three Idiots will entertain the viewers.

The Three Idiots will entertain the viewers.

Rajkumar Hirani, the successful director of bollywood films, had experimented with Amir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, in the film The Three Idiots. Amir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi were college friends.

The story of the film was related to Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone, and the production was controlled by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. In the film Madhavan and Sharman Joshi recollected an old bet they were involved with. The bet was related to a wedding that they would have crashed into and a funeral which went out of control.

They searched their college friend Amir Khan who was involved in an affair with Kareena Kapoor and also was rebuked by Boman Irani. After the college days, all of a sudden, Amir Khan disappeared. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi could not trace him.

The music of the film had been composed by Shatanu Moitra who had followed up his successes in Parineeta and Lage Raho Munnabhai. The main songs which were catchy include “all izz well” sung by Sonu Nigam, Shaan and Swanand Kirkire, “behti hawa sa tha who” sung by Shaan, Shantanu Moitra, “jaan nehi denge tujhe” sung by Sonu Nigam, “give me some sunshine” sung by Suraj jagan, Sharman Joshi, to name a few.

Raj Kumar Hirani had only tasted success from the time he had made films related to Munnabhai series. Both Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai had been super hit. Going by that track record The Three Idiots is also going to be hit.

Besides Amir Khan, Mr. Perfectionist is destined to put his stamp with the success of the film The Three Idiots after the successes of Ghajini and Taren Zameen par released in the previous years respectively.

Shahrukh Khan's statement about Amir Khan's promotional tactics.

Shahrukh Khan’s statement about Amir Khan’s promotional tactics.

Very recently Amir Khan came to Kolkata to reach Sourav Ganguly’s house. He came in disguise and enquired about the address of Sourav Ganguly in Behala. The gatekeepers did not recognize him.

Later when Sourav Ganguly returned home he entertained Amir Khan. Amir Khan was offered a grand dinner at night in Sourav Ganguly’s house. Amir Khan invited both Sourav Ganguly and Dona Ganguly to Mumbai to attend the Premier of Amir Khan’s film The Three Idiots to be released during Christmas.

Amir Khan had done all these activities as part of his film promotion. He had started his promotion from Benaras. That is the place where Amir Khan’s mother was born. There also Amir Khan went in disguise.

Shahrukh Khan had opened his mouth in respect to the promotional tactics of Amir Khan. He said that Amir Khan’s promotional tactics can be better termed as “chichorapan”. According to Shahrukh Khan these are very cheap standards of promoting a film.

Shahrukh Khan himself had started his publicity campaign for the upcoming film My name is Khan. Shahrukh had acted along with Kajol in the film made by Karan Johar. The film is scheduled to be released in February, 2010, but Shahrukh Khan had started his campaign from now itself.

Returning back to the comments made by Shahrukh Khan about Amir Khan, it is evident that Shahrukh Khan is jealous about Amir Khan. As far as the acceptability of Amir Khan amongst intellectuals are concerned, Shahrukh Khan is match.

In the last two years Amir Khan had acted only in one film per year, that is Taren Zameen Par in 2007 and Ghajini in 2008. Even the films became the best films of the year. Just like Dilip Kumar, Amir Khan had been selective in choosing roles. Shahrukh Khan had a great appeal with the mass, but as far as perfections in performances, Amir Khan is a better choice for creative directors. The Three Idiots should also do well.

Raj Kumar Hirani and bollywood films.

Raj Kumar Hirani and bollywood films.

Raj Kumar Hirani, had given a number of award winning films in the last few years. He wrote and directed the film Munna Bhai MBBS in 2004. The film created huge commotion all around the country.

Sanjay Dutt’s character Munna Bhai and Arshad Warsi’s character Circuit, gave them the image of their lifetime. The entire credit goes to Raj Kumar Hirani. Munna Bhai’s good deeds through muscle power and help of underworld people were reflected very well. The entire message was given through comedy instances. Boman Irani was also discovered in the film. The film received national award for the most popular film in the year. Besides it also received Filmfare critics award, Starscreen awards, Zee Cine awards.

Lage Raho Munnabhai was the second sequel of Munna Bhai MBBS. In this film Raj Kumar Hirani asked Sanjay Dutt to do Gandhigiri to solve different issues. The weapon of non-violence was reached to the masses in a very composed manner. Sanjay Dutt played the role of his life-time. In the film Vidya Balan as a radio-jockey created huge appeal before the masses. Sanjay Dutt’s gandhigiri helped in getting an old-age home back from the clutches of unscrupulous businessmen.

His third sequel, Munnabhai Chale America is under production. But interest created relating to the next film The Three Idiots. On one hand Amir Khan and Kareena Kapoor are acting in the film along with the other co-artists like R. Madhavan, Sharman Jodhi, etc. Secondly the film is related to the story of Chetan Bhagat titled “Five Point Someone”. At the same time, it had been a departure of Raj Kumar Hirani from the Munna Bhai Series.

The experience of Raj Kumar Hirani with Vidhu Vinod Chopra in films like Parineeta, Eklavya, Mission Kashmir will be of big use in his following films. The viewers await the release of the film The Three Idiots and wish Raj Kumar Hirani the best.
