Happy birthday to Paresh Rawal.

Happy birthday to Paresh Rawal.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to veteran actor Paresh Rawal on 30th May, 2011. He had proved himself to be an indispensable actor in the bollywood arena for the last 20 years.

In the late 80s and early 90s he was known for depicting serious characters like Sardar Ballabhai Patel in the film Sardar, the performance in the film Wo Chokri, etc. Then he acted in huge number of films in the role of villain, like Damini, Laadla, Mahanta, Vijeta, Samundar, etc.

From the late 90s, his talented got recognized and he started acting in central characters and serio-characters. He was sublime in the films Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. The story of both the films revolved around him and Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty were outcast by his brilliance. He was brilliant in Kamal Hassan’s Chachi 420. His performance was as powerful as the performances of Om Puri and Amrish Puri. In the film China Gate he showed his excellence opposite stalwant actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Amrish Puri and others.

During the last 10 years, most of the bollywood directors depend upon him to pull out big projects. He was excellent in the film Chup Chup Ke, with Om Puri and Shahid Kapoor. He was sublime in the role of the father of Akshay Khanna in the film Mere Baap Pehle Aap. He did a cameo in the film 36 China Town opposite Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.

He also contributed in the comedy films Malamaal Weekly, Hero No 1, etc. The huge space in bollywood films that was created by the absence of Amrish Puri, Kader Khan and other veteran actors had been filled by Paresh Rawal.

He had received few awards for the best comedian, but he deserves more number of awards, because through his acting variation he had proved his versatility. The viewers expect him to continue the great work in 2011 and the years to come.

Paresh Rawal was brilliant in Atithi Tum Kab Jayoge.

Paresh Rawal was brilliant in Atithi Tum Kab Jayoge.

The film Atithi Tum Kab Jayoge, does not have anything new other than the brilliant performance of Paresh Rawal. There has been a mindset of most of the directors these days that the moment they make a comedy film it will automatically be hit. There is no basis of this mindset. If in 2009, All The Best did great business, Do Not Disturb and De Dana Dan flopped.

Ashwni Dhar had been the director of the film. He had cast Ajay Devgan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal in the main roles. Warner Brother Pictures and Wide Frame Films had produced the film. In this film Ajay Devgan and Konkona Sen Sharma had a peaceful family.

But the appearance of Paresh Rawal in their house created the maximum amount of displeasure. He mentioned that he was a distant relative of the family and come from village. But the period of time for which promised to stay passed away. He never decided to leave the house.

He created annoyance of every type for the family. Ajay Devgan and Konkona Sen Sharma had tried every type of ploy to compel Paresh Rawal to leave the house. But he was adamant enough to act on their ploy. The character artists like Ritesh Deshmukh, Sanjay Mishra, Pradeep Rawat, Satish Kaushik did well in their respective roles.

The music had been composed by Pritam. The song “dohe” sung by Amit Misra and “aaja aaja” sung by Pritam had been popular. The other song “joti jalaile” sung by Vishal Bharatdwaj was not bad. But the film does not have the masala with which viewers can be drawn in to the cinema halls or persuaded to sit in the halls for three hours.

The acting of Paresh Rawal and Konkona Sen Sharma had been fine. The best part of Paresh Rawal lied in asking Viju Khote during a film shooting to repeat his dialogue of Sholay titled “kitne aadmi the”. He got fed up saying do. The simplicity of Paresh Rawal in the respective role made people laugh. Ultimately the set that was created in the shooting site was destroyed because the director asked them to blast it when he said two and Viju Khote said do.

The film did mediocre business in 2010 and it was more than enough for the director and producer.

Atithi Tum Kab Jayoge has nothing new.

If the film does mediocre business it is more than enough for the director and producer.

Review of De Dana Dan.

Review of De Dana Dan.

Director Priyadarshan had come up with another hilarious film De Dana Dan, the sequel of Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. He had used the same team of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, whom he had used in the films Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri.

In this film Akshay Kumar had been shown as a butler, cook, personal attendant of rich industrialist in Singapore played by Archana Puran Singh. He had an affair with Katrina Kaif. Akshay Kumar’s friend Sunil Shetty came to Singapore to become rich but ended up being a courier delivery person. He had an affair with Sameera Reddy who was a rich girl but whose parents wanted her to get married to only a rich person.

In the meantime Paresh Rawal, who was a businessman, wanted to get Chunkey Pandey married to Sameera Reddy so that, he can get lot of money in dowry as Sameera Reddy was very rich.

Both Sunil Shetty and Akshay Kumar planned to kidnap a person to recover ransom. In that way they could get quick cash and impress their girlfriends. But things went wrong just like other Priyadarshan movies and the chaos leads to comedy instances.

Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty again did a brilliant job. The music of Pritam had rocked bollywood even before the film had been released. Some of the hit songs include “paisa” sung by Selina, Manak E, etc., “gale lag ja” sung by Javed Ali and Ban Jyotsna, “hotty naughty” sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

The exotic location of Singapore is going to create special attention for the viewers. Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy brought out their comedy instincts in style.

As a whole the film is going to be super hit and bring huge revenue to bollywood film industry

Katrina Kaif's expectation from De Dana Dan.

Katrina Kaif’s expectation from De Dana Dan.

Katrina Kaif has a big expectation from the film De Dana Dan. There are few reasons for her expectation. Firstly with the passing of time the viewers question Katrina Kaif’s consistency in providing hit films. Secondly her pair with Akshay Kumar had always given hits including Namaste London, Welcome, Singh is Kinng, etc. So the acceptability of the pair is again questioned.

In response to the first issue, the critics, directors, producers and other involved in the entertainment industry will agree that it is not possible to give hits one after the other. Eminent market strategists like Raj Kapoor even suffered the consequences of flop films like Mera Naam Joker. With change of days, months, years, the tastes of viewers also differ. At one time during Big B’s domination, action films like Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewar, rocked bollywood films. But these days with exceptions most of the action suffers end up being flops.

Although Katrina Kaif acted in hit films one after the other like Race, Partner, Welcome, etc., those films which were released this year got mediocre market like Blue. The performance of Katrina Kaif was not an issue because she got a very small role and the major contribution was made by Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta. Katrina had learned from bitter experiences that she requires few flop films to let the viewers also know it is inhuman on the part of any actress to give only hits and nothing else. But she bounced back with super hit film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani with romantic icon Ranbir Kapoor.

Katrina Kaif had one advantage. In face she had acted in the film De Dana Dan, which had been a comedy film. It is a sequel of the films Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. Both the previous films had been super hits. The combination of Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar had rocked bollywood before.

So there is every possibility of De Dana Dan, being a super hit film. Akshay Kumar had been cast opposite Katrina Kaif, while Sunil Shetty had been cast opposite Sameera Reddy. Let us hope that the film will do great business.

Happy birthday to Sunil Shetty.

Happy birthday to Sunil Shetty.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Sunil Shetty on 11th August 2009. Although he started his career as an action star, especially in the film Balwaan, he proved his capability in every type of role very gradually.

His combination with Akshay Kumar had been considered very grand and both the actors had given many colourful hits during their illustrious career. Mohra was a big hit. There Sunil Shetty played the role of the anti-hero who was dictated terms by Naseeruddin Shah, while Akshay Kumar played the role of an honest police-officer. Their film Dhadkan opposite Shilpa Shetty did great business. Sunil Shetty received the filmfare award for the best villain for his brilliant performance in the film. The songs in the film were extremely successful and both the stars gave brilliant lips in those songs.

Sunil Shetty started a new chapter with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in his career in respect of comedy films with the film Hera Pheri. Three of them acted brilliantly in the film Hera Pheri along with Tabu and other actors. The film became so successful that the director Priya Darshan was compelled to make a sequel of the film with the title Phir Hera Pheri. It became super hit too. In this film Bipasha Basu played a very significant role along with the three musketeers. The third sequel of Hera Pheri is under production at the moment.

Sunil Shetty also acted in great patriotic films like Border. JP Dutta’s blockbuster utilized the acting skills of Sunil Shetty, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff and Akshay Khanna. The songs in the film composed by Anu Malik created history with Sonu Nigam doing a great job with “sandese ate hai”. His other hit films include Hu Tu Tu opposite Tabu, Krishna opposite Karishma Kapoor, etc.

In 2009 he is also looking forward to the release of the film Blue along with Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar. The viewers provide their best wishes for the success of Blue and Sunil Shetty’s other films in future.

Review of Sanjay Dutt's Vijeta.

Review of Sanjay Dutt’s Vijeta.

Sanjay Dutt used to be considered the action king of bollywood films in the 90s, before he was arrested in relation to TADA Act and his career got affected. He entertained the viewers with many memorable action films like Sadak, Aatish, Yalgaar, etc.

Vijeta was one of his successful films with Raveena Tandon (directed by K. Muralimohan Rao) which had entertainment all along the film. He was a lawyer who was guided by Alok Nath an eminent lawyer who treated him like his son. While Alok Nath took the brief of an upright officer, Paresh Rawal, an eminent builders of the city with his men killed Alok Nath and took the evidence by force.

Sanjay Dutt first killed Paresh Rawal’s men one by one and then Paresh Rawal at the end of the film. Ravina Tandon was a police investigator who worked under the supervision of Amrish Puri. But Amrish Puri was also involved with Paresh Rawal and the unlawful group of promoters.

Ravina Tandon tried to stop Sanjay Dutt from killing Paresh Rawal’s men who had killed his guide Alok Nath. But she failed. Lastly she arrested Sanjay Dutt and imprisoned him. When he was in jail she went to arrest Paresh Rawal and Amrish Puri.

She got beaten up by the men of Paresh Rawal and Amrish Puri and Sanjay Dutt had to escape from the jail and he burned Amrish Puri when he tried to escape. Amrish Puri gave another spirited performance in the film and was the probably the best actor of the film. Besides there were character artists in the film like Annu Kapoor, who did well. Annu Kapoor’s own son who was a constable, was killed by Amrish Puri.

The music in the film given by Anand Milind was very impressive. The song “sherry mai ho gaya tumhara” was very impressive with foreign locations. Sanjay Dutt was the only action star other than Sunny Deol who was accepted by the viewers in the 90s and had been an inspiration for new action stars like Bobby Deol, Hrithik Roshan and others who did well in the last 10 years.

The film Vijeta should be restored for its powerful action sequences.

Akshay Kumar requires a hit very soon.

Akshay Kumar requires a hit very soon.

Akshay Kumar, the action star of bollywood film industry, requires a hit film very soon. He was at the top of the world during the release of the film Singh is Kinng.

He gave the maximum income tax to the Government in 2008, and due to his films becoming hit one after the other like Namaste London, Welcome, Singh is Kinng, he reached the summit of his career.

Although Katrina Kaif is credited for most of the hit films of Akshay Kumar, there is no shadow of doubt, that Akshay Kumar’s hard work was rewarded. He initially started his career with action films.

His combination with Sunil Shetty used to be considered to be one of the leading combinations which brought a new dimension to bollywood films. The hit films with the deadly combination included Mohra, Dhadkan, etc.

But with the success of comedy films in the last few years, both Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty changed styles and signed comedy films. The result was history. There films Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri blasted bollywood with the success. In fact the combination of Akshay Kumar with Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty inspired the producers to make sequels of the same film.

These days Akshay’s combination with Katrina Kaif had been accepted by the viewers. 2009 had been a very bad year for Akshay. Both his films Chandni Chowk to China and 8*10 Tasveer did very poor business.

Akshay Kumar is returning back with Katrina Kaif with the film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani very soon this year. Akshay desperately requires a hit very soon.

Viewers remember the success of actors for very short period. If Akshay fails to produce very soon, there is every possible chance of his losing the number one spot.

Happy birthday to Paresh Rawal.

Happy birthday to Paresh Rawal.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Paresh Rawal on 30th May, 2009. He had remained indispensable for the last ten years. He initially showed his metal in off-beat films like Woh Chokri.

The image of villain in Woh Chokri inspired directors to cast him as villain in other films as well. His landmark films as villain include Vijeta and Mahanta opposite Sanjay Dutt, Auzaar opposite Salman Khan, Gupt opposite Bobby Deol, Ghayal opposite Sunny Deol, to name a few.

From the late 90s, action films lost their predominance and bollywood banked their resources on comedy films. From that period Paresh Rawal remained the uncrowned monarch of bollywood films. His performance in 36 China Town was brilliant by every acting standard. He was being suspected as one of the culprits in a murder case by Akshay Khanna and struggled hard to prove himself wrong.

Paresh Rawal did an even better job in the film Chachi 420 with Kamal Hassan. He wanted to marry chachi played by Kamal Hassan himself, and balanced the powerful performance of Om Puri and Amrish Puri.

Paresh Rawal gave a lifetime performance in the film Hera Pheri and compelled the producers and directors to make a sequel of the film with the title Phir Hera Pheri. Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty were the other actors who gave inspired performance along with Paresh Rawal. Even his performance in the film Golmaal require special mention. He played the role of blind person in the film who gave shelter to Ajay Devgan and his friends in the film.

Paresh Rawal’s performances in softer roles also had touched the viewers. He was sublime in the film Nayak opposite Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri. Even then, the viewers expect to be represented in comedy roles more than any other roles.

His performances in films like Maalamaal Weekly with Om Puri and Mere Baap Pehle Aap with Akshay Khanna, proves the fact that he cannot be replaced in witty roles. The viewers expect him to continue the great work he had done over the last 20 years.

Review of Maan Gaye Mughal-I-Azam

Review of the film Maan Gaye Mughal –i-Azam.

Last year the film Maan-Gaye Mughal-I-Azam was released. It was a comedy film directed by Sanjay Chhel where Paresh Rawal, Mallika Sherawat and other actors played important role. The music was composed by Anu Malik. The film had reflections of the comedy film Jane Bhi Do Yaaron if seen from a critical angle.

Paresh Rawal and his wife Mallika Sherawat was shown to perform in professional theatre. Initially it was shown that a play was enacted on story of the underworld in Mumbai. Then due to resistence from the local police and few mafias the play was stopped.

Instead of that play a historical play on Mughal-I-Azam was launched. In that play Paresh Rawal played the role of Akbar-the-great. Mallika Sherawat played the role of Anarkali. Everyday when Paresh Rawal used to start his introductory speech, Rahul Bose, a member of the audience used to enter the greenroom and speak with Mallika Sherawat. The communication resulted in an affair.

Later it was shown that Rahul Bose was an intelligence officer and he used the entire drama group to help him to reveal the existence of ISI agents in India. Rahul Bose asked Mallika Sherawat to meet the ISI agent and develop intimacy. After that the entire drama group was taken to the place where the ISI agents operated to get the RDX that was planned to have been used.

The RDX was recovered and the casualty that could have happened was prevented. Everything happened in a comedy manner. Through the comedy sequences the message relating to the unrest that was existing in India in the early 90s was depicted.

The film did not get box-office success inspite of the fact that comedy films got best reviews in 2008. One of the reasons may have been the intellectual part of the film which was not understood by the general mass.

Even if the commercial result of the film was unsatisfactory, films like Maan-Gaye-Mughal-I-Azam should be made in future for its intellectual value.

Review of the film Dhoonte Reh Jaoge

Review of the film Dhoonte Reh Jaoge.

The bollywood viewers again have been confronted with another comedy film Dhoonte Reh Jaoge. The film is directed by Umesh Shukla and the major actors and actresses include Paresh Rawal, Sonu Sood, Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan. From the experience of the directors of bollywood films of the last 5 years, new directors feel that viewers accept comedy films more than romantic films and action films.

Paresh Rawal played the role of an unsuccessful film producer who was desperate to make a film and strike and comeback. He got a scope of making a film when Kunal Khemu, a chartered accountant, approached him. Kunal Khemu had a record of his honesty but as his girlfriend wanted to settle down he sacrificed his honesty to get quick success both monetarily and socially.

Soha Ali Khan was a big admirer of Ex-film celebrity Biswajeet. She wanted to be an actress herself. So the association of Paresh Rawal and Kunal Khemu became a blessing in disguise. Soha Ali Khan did not understand the motive of Kunal Khemu. He wanted to earn more than 100 crores by launching the film.

But knowing about the capability of Paresh Rawal and Soha Ali Khan he was rest assured that the film would end up being a flop. He wanted to get rid of the ghost of films from the head of Soha Ali Khan after the film ended up as a disaster. He also got Sonu Sood to sound the clapper board for the film.

But instead of being a great flop the film ended up being successful. The effort of the upcoming actors and actresses were appreciated. So the motive of Kunal Khemu was not fulfilled at all. Although the plot of the film was fine, neither the script was strong, nor the comedy sequences that impressive.

Paresh Rawal and Sonu Sood did well in their respective roles. But the film does not have the potential to be a blockbuster. These days low budget films never dream to bring back profits. But in the case of Dhoonte Reh Jaoge, the viewers would not be able to consider it better than a moderate venture.

Although in the recent past films like Partner, Om Shanti Om, Welcome did well at the box-office, they had impressive stars, quality direction, good picturisation and melodious music. Dhoonte Reh Jaoge has none of them so it will be a big surprise if it brings profit to the bollywood industry.
