In the 90s, Salman Khan acted opposite most of the powerful performers of bollywood and kept his mark. His film Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, opposite Madhuri Dixit became extremely successful. He performed opposite Karishma Kapoor in the film Hum Saath Saath Hai which was also successful.

His film Auzaar, opposite Shilpa Shetty became hit. Sanjay Kapoor was the other actor in the film who also did well. He played his romantic role in the film Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hotha Hai vewry well opposite Twinkle Khanna. The songs in the film like “pehli pehli baar”, “o jana” became big hits.

But she attracted the attention of the viewers with her performance in the film Murder, which was an adaptation of the film Unfaithful. The film was written by Mahesh Bhatt, directed by Anurag Basu, with Anu Malik providing hit songs.

In the film Murder, Mallika was a married girl, who got involved with another person played by Imraan Hashmi. Eventually Imraan Hashmi was killed and Mallika was accused for the murder of the person. But actually it was her husband who had killed Imraan Hashmi. The song “kaho na kaho” which was inspired from the Amr Diab’s song “tamaly maak” became very popular.

Mallika acted also in the film Myth, opposite Jackie Chan. With hit films like pyar ke Side Effects, Aap Ka Suroor and Welcome, she had proved her acting capability and directors started casting her in strong roles in addition to item numbers. In Welcome she had acted opposite senior actors like Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar and hit pair of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.

In 2008, her film Ugly Aur Pagli, opposite Ranvir Shorey, had been released. Ranvir shorey, an engineering student entered into an affair with Mallika. The story relating to the ill-tempered Mallika and the slavery of Ranvir had just been directed as a comedy film where the viewers can enjoy their interaction and witty moments.

Her other film Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam is also going to be released soon in 2008. with aggressive performances in the last few years, the viewers expect that Mallika Sherawat will show her variation in acting in the years to come.

But her films opposite Akshay Kumar had been appreciated by the viewers the most. The film Namaste London was extremely successful. Katrina Kaif was the daughter of Rishi Kapoor who had settled in London with his family. As Katrina lived in that place from childhood, she was not used to Indian values which existed in India.


Rishi Kapoor wanted to get her an Indian husband as he could not trust the British boys who married many girls divorced them. So he brought Katrina to India and got her married to Akshay Kumar against wish. Akshay Kumar came all the way to London to find that Katrina never considered their marriage as real. She wanted to marry her boyfriend in London and was not concerned about the feelings of Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar ultimately convinced her about the Indian values and she came to India with Akshay as per the wish of Rishi Kapoor.

In Welcome, Katrina Kaif played the role of the sister of underworld dons Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar. Paresh Rawal, the relative of Akshay Kumar wanted to get himself married to a girl from a good family. But Akshay had an affair with Katrina Kaif and the film revolved around the dilemma of marrying with Katrina Kaif. The information relating to the identity of Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar was revealed and there was not way the marriage could be prevented. It was a comedy film where all the respective performers had done well.


Both of them are again seen in the film Singh is Kinng. Akshay Kumar had played the role a hardworking Punjabi who had created his fortunes by working hard. The viewers have a lot of expectation from the film which is going to be released very soon.


Both Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif are expected to do well together in the films to come.

Uttam Kumar played the role of renowned singer in the film Deya Neya, who left his house as his father Kamal Mitra, a big industrialist did not accept his musical career. Uttam Kumar worked as the driver in Tanuja’s house and went on singing in All India Radio. The truth relating to Uttam Kumar’s identity was unearthed when he sang in a public function for the cause of his sick friend who had written the lyrics of Shyamal Mitra’s song “ganer bhuban bhariye debo”. Shyamal Mitra and Manobendra Mukherjee’s song “dole dodul dole jhulona” became superduper hit in 1963. Tanuja complimented Uttam Kumar’s romantic image in the film with her carefree acting. The film was remade in hindi with the title Anurodh where Rajesh Khanna played Uttam Kumar’s role and simple Kapadia played the role of the leading actress in the film.

In Antony Firingi, Tanuja played the role of successful singer from who Uttam Kumar being a Christian learnt singing and reproduced Manna Dey’s songs like “ami je jalsaghare”, “ami jamini tumi shashi he”, etc. He married Tanuja and arranged for puja for Goddess Kali. Unfortunately the orthodox hindus could not accept that and they burnt Tanuja at the end of the film. Uttam Kumar got National Award for best performance in Antony Firingi and Chiriakhana. He gave excellent lips in Manna Deys’s songs like “champa chameli” which were some of the best songs Manna Dey had sung in his life.

Both Tanuja and Uttam Kumar complimented each other in the film Raj Kumari, which was a romantic film. The romantic songs were composed by RD Burman. Kishore Kumar’s song “e ki holo” became extremely successful and RD Burman made the remake of the songs in hindi which were also successful.


Uttam Kumar’s existence in Bengali films had drawn many leading actress from bollywood films in Bengali including Tanuja, Mala Sinha, Moushumi Chatterji, etc., and all their films had been extremely successful. These films should be restored and preserved.

Lara Dutta did extremely well in the film No Entry. She had the habit of suspecting her husband Anil Kapoor about having affair with other girls. Eventually Anil Kapoor entered into an affair with Bipasha Basu who was sned by Salman Khan to get involved with Anil Kapoor.

Her entry into the lives of Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan had resulted in both the persons losing peace in their family and getting divorce suits from their wives. Ultimately Salman Khan came from abroad to resolve the matter and he resolved it after playacting infront of his wife Esha Deol.

Amrita Rao is the new actress of bollywood who had created a moderate impression in the minds of the viewers for the last few years. She started her career with modeling and then acted for the first time in the film Ab Ke Baras.

She impressed the viewers with her performance in the film Ishq Vishk. It was romantic film where Amrita Rao had an affair with Shahid Kapoor. Their relationship got affected after Shahid Kapoor misbehaved with her during a picnic when he got intoxicated after drink was offered to him. There are other twists and turns in the story as both of them got engaged with others but at the end of the film their romance comes to a positive end.

She made the viewers amazed with her performance in the film Main Hoon Naa. She acted opposite Zayed Khan in the film. In that film the main roles were played by Shahrukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. But Amrita Rao had exhibited glimpses of teenage romance which was very impressive.

She also acted in the film Vivah, opposite Shahid Kapoor. She received star screen best actress award for her performance in the film Vivah.She had also acted in telegu films with her impressive performance in the film Atidhi opposite Mahesh Babu.

Amrita Arora had created a good impression with her performance in bollywood films in the last few years. She had a background in bollywood films as her sister Malaika Arora had also played notable roles in many films and had also conducted a number of television shows successfully.

She started her career opposite Fardeen Khan in the film Kitne Door Kitne Paas. Then she acted in the film Awara Pagal Diwana.

In Awara Pagal Diwana, Om Puri, died out of heart attack at the beginning of the film. After that his property consisting of diamonds was supposed to be distributed between his son, his daughter and son in law. Amrita Arora, the wife of the dentist played by Altaf Shivdasani, got involved in the battle between Akshay Kumar, Rahul Dev, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, etc., when she lived next door to Akshay Kumar and others. Although the film involved action sequences, Amrita Arora impressed the viewers with her own performance in the film.

She also acted in the film Girlfriend where Isha Koppikar also played a significant role. The film was related to the relationship between both the girls.

She also acted in the film Fight Club – Members Only, where leading characters were played by Dino Morea, Ritesh Deshmukh, Zayed Khan and other actors. All these characters were involved in affairs, and Amrita Arora and Diya Mirza created an impact in their life. It was an action film, but again Amrita Arora had played her part very well.

There are number of films of Amrita Arora which are going to be released in 2008. She also provided a great dance performance in the closing ceremony of DLF Indian Cricket League before the finals, held at Mumbai, where Rajasthan Royals emerged as the victorious team.The viewers expect her to continue her good work in the years to come.

Anil Kapoor had successful combination with most of the leading actresses of the 80s and 90s, as he had steady box-office all along his career. Rani Mukherjee had shown her acting capability in the last 10 years and has been considered as one of the most versatile performers of the recent time.

Both of them acted together in the film Nayak. Anil Kapoor was a journalist in the film who got a scope of interviewing the Chief Minister of the state, played by Amrish Puri. He was bold enough to ask questions relating to performance of the ministry and the development of the state.


The CM had no proper answer to provide and he fumbled with the responses. At the end he said he could have passed an ordinance and made the journalist a CM for a day, and he would also have realised the challenges that the ministry faces.

Anil Kapoor accepted the challenge. He dismissed all those officers who did not work and misused their power during their tenure. He took strong measures against the corrupted businessmen and also the underworld people.


What he did in one day, many governments failed to do in months time. During that period he visited the village of Rani Mukherjee and got impressed with her innocence. Her father never wanted to get her married to him as he did not have secured job. The songs in the film “challo chale mitwa”, sung by Udit Narayan and picturised on Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee, became very successful.

Ultimately Anil Kapoor contested elections as the people in that place compelled him to face it. Even Paresh Rawal insisted on the issue. He won the elections as people saw his honesty and integrity during the tenure of CM for a day. The film was very successful.


Both the performers (Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee) still have a lot of acting left in them and the viewers expect them to act together in more films in future.

Her performance in the songs “tu shayar hai”, “dekha hai pehli baar”, in the film Saajan, was very impressive. Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan also provided strong performances in the film. In the same film Kumar Shanu’s song “mera dil bhi kitna paagal hai” became extremely successful.


Madhuri Dixit provided strong lips in the songs “kab tak chup baithey”, “dil to paagal hai”, and other songs in the film Dil To Paagal Hai. Uttam Singh was the composer of music in the film and Shahrukh Khan ably supported Madhuri Dixit in the film. Karishma Kapoor was the other leading actress in the film and did well in her part and gave good lips in the song “le gai le gai”.

Madhuri Dixit was sublime in the film Khel, opposite Anil Kapoor. The song in the film “khat likhna hai’ became extrmely successful due to the choreography of Madhuri Dixit. Saroj Khan had been very prominent in most of the dance sequences that were picturised on Madhuri Dixit.

Other hit songs of Madhuri Dixit include “ek do teen”, from the film Tezaab. Also the songs from the film Dil, opposite Amir Khan including “hum pyar karne wale”, was successful in the early 90s. Madhuri gave adequate lips in the song “didi tera dewar diwana” opposite Salman Khan.

Madhuri Dixit also provided successful performance in the film Devdas, opposite Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the song ‘dil dola re”, where both Madhuri and Aishwarya performed together.


Madhuri Dixit is still remembered for her performance in films like Beta, Koyla, Lajja, etc. The viewers expect her to continue her good work in more bollywood films in future.
