Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor were brilliant in the film Anjaana Anjaani. Although the film had few comedy sequences to bring the two partners close to each other the manner in which their love for each other developed is simply amazing.

Both the actors were shown to be involved with each other in committing suicide. Both wanted to jump from height in water and commit suicide. After they got hit by vehicles and admitted in the hospital they came to know each other.

They just realized that few days were left for the year to end, and there was no harm in committing suicide at the year end. So they wanted to fulfill all their unfinished dreams.


They went to parties, went to Las Vegas, swam in sea water, and did weird things. But the performance of Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor had been excellent. Ranbir Kapoor was a bachelor who never had any experience with a girl. The sincerity with which he depicted the busy schedule of an Indian in USA was simply amazing.


Priyanka Chopra had relationship with Zaid Khan. But she was very cordial with Ranbir Kapoor. Although she showed a lot of madness in her conduct with Ranbir Kapoor, she was neither rough, nor arrogant, she was just crazy in her attitude.

The film did not get the desired opening. But that does not matter. For the viewers, Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor are too big names, to get affected by super hit business or mediocre business of a film. They should keep up the excellent work in the next films to follow.

Ranbir Kapoor Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana Anjaani got a slow opening in its first week. The film was initially slated to be released on 24th September. Instead it was released on 1st October, 2010, after the Allahabad High Court verdict on Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya.

Anjaana Anjaani had been another big budget film after Dabaang. Ranbir Kapoor, a citizen of New York City had a huge loan of 12 million dollars. Priyanka Chopra, a citizen of San Francisco was also perturbed with her life and jumped from George Washington Bridge. While both of them wanted to commit suicide each one bumped into one another.

The coastguards saved them. Ranbir Kapoor very soon deliberately got himself hit by a car while Priyanka Chopra fell on the bridge and broke her neck. They became intimate to each other during the period of hospitalization. They tried to commit suicide 5 times in their lives without success.

They decided to commit suicide on 31st December. 20 days were left in their lives. So both of them tried to fulfill their unfinished dreams. They swam in Atlantic Ocean, went to Las Vegas, gave parties. At that time they came to know that they were attached to each other.

The film had been directed by Siddharth Anand, and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Sharan Kapoor. The music had been composed by Vishal Shekhar. Some of the songs were very impressive like “aas pass khuda” sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, “anjaana anjaani” sung by Vishal Dadlani and Shilpa Rao, “tujhe bhula diya” sung by Mohit Chauhan, Shekhar Ravijiani and Shruti Pathak.

The timing of the release may have been one of the reasons for having slow response. Otherwise Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Zaid Khan acted well. With Dabaang doing a business of around 150 crores, Anjaana Anjaani has a pressure in terms of showing reasonable success.

But the film is worth watching and considering the huge popularity of superstar Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, it is certain that slowly and gradually the film will pull crowds.

The songs composed by Laxmikant Pyarellal, Jaidev and Madanmohan in these films became everlasting hits. These days holi is losing significance in the context of bollywood films and the stars involved with film-making. During the lifetime of Showman Raj Kapoor, holi was celebrated in RK Studio. It used to be a very prestigious affair. Other than members of the Kapoor family including Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor and others, celebrities from the film industry used to play holi in the studio.

The event marked the strengthening of relationship of members of the bollywood film industry. The celebration included directors like Manmohan Desai, actors like Dilip Kumar, singers like Mukesh, composers like Shankar Jaikishan, to name a few. The enthusiasm was there even during the 80s, when most of the celebrities who were contemporaries of Raj Kapoor became old.

Raj Kapoor himself stopped it in the late 80s as he started having physical discomfort while playing holi. He had asthma and the contact of colours basically aggravated the disease. The prestigious celebration of holi stopped after 1988, after the death of Raj Kapoor.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani had Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor acting together in a romantic role for the first time. So obviously the viewers had a lot of expectation from both of them. Atif Aslam and Alisha Chinoy had sung the song “tera hone laga hoon” which was probably the most romantic composition of 2009. It does not matter whether Pritam had received any filmfare award for the best composer, the award givers these days think that giving any award to AR Rehman increases their prestige after winning Oscar. Neither does it matter whether Atif Aslam or Alisha Chinoy wins any awards or not.

The lyrics of the songs were very catchy, especially the line “shining in the setting sun like a pearl upon the ocean come on feel me girl feel me”. The part sung by Alisha Chinoy titled “o aja tubhi mera mera” attaches the portion of Atif Aslam titled “tera hone laga hoon” in the film. The orchestration is very soft and the lyrics written by Irshad Kamil is very meaningful.

The songs composed by Pritam in the film Jab We Met were equally romantic, which did not get the appreciation they deserved. Specially the song “tum se hi” had an everlasting in terms of the rhythm and melody. Soft numbers always have a lasting impression.

In that respect Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani reached the viewers and audiences through their songs even more than the performances of Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor which were decent as well. Pritam should get encouraged to compose more soft numbers in future.

He recorded the song “aadat” in Mekal Hassan’s Studio in the late 90s. He released his first album titled ‘jalpari’ in 2004. His second album “doori” was released in 2006. He stormed bollywood with his stylish performance in the film Race.

Composer Pritam used his pop style of singing in the song “pehli nazar me aisa jadoo kar diya” in the film Race. Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Khanna played the lead roles in the film. The song became a craze for the youngstars. Atif Aslam continued his stylish performance with the song “bakhuda tumhi ho” in the film Kismat Connection picturised on Shahid Kapoor. Although the film did mediocre business the song became super hit.

In 2009, Atif Aslam, stormed bollywood with the songs “tu jane na”, and “tera hone laga hoon” composed by Pritam. Both the songs were from the film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani which was one of the greatest hits of 2009, after The Three Idiots and Wanted. He is presently busy with the songs of the film Prince – It’s Showtime. His song “who lamhe” from the film Zeher was also successful. He received “tamgha –e-imtiaz”, a medal of distinction for outstanding singing.

He will be a big competitor of Indian established singers like Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Udit Narayan, and others. The viewers and listeners expect him to continue the great work.

After that he signed such a serious film, which had very limited audience. Simith Amin had created attention in bollywood films with his brilliant effort in the film Chak De India, which was released few years back. Viewers commented that Shahrukh Khan did not take that amount of make up and with realistic performance he had given his best.

This time Simith Amin had come up with a similar sort of realistic film with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. In the poster also only Ranbir Kapoor is featured with the title, Rocket Singh – Salesman of the year. In the film Ranbir Kapoor was a graduate who got a job in sales.

He joined office in a company related to computer sales and service. He had one target in mind. That was to become the salesman of the year. He was too honest and for those reasons his superior officer considered him a failure. Even his colleages were rude towards him. Manish Choudhury played the role of the boss of Ranbir Kapoor and did a great job. He avoided overacting that is generally done in big-budget films.

Gaohar Khan, who played the role of the receptionist in the film, also showed natural performance. Lastly Ranbir Kapoor had shown that if a powerful script is given he can provide natural performance. In the 70s and 80s, in realistic films of Basu Chatterji and Basu Bhattacharya, these roles were played by Sanjeev Kumar, Amol Palekar, Farooq Sheikh and others. Ranbir Kapoor had taken a risk in acting and performing in these types of roles at the moment when the halls were flooded with big budget films like Paa and Kurbaan.
